Behind the design
Aura Cover Atelier is founded by Umm Noer, a creative soul whose journey spans two worlds. Born and raised in the Netherlands, her creative spark was ignited at the age of eight upon returning to Morocco. It was there, driven by an unstoppable urge to create, that she secretly took a premium fabric from her mother’s travel suitcase and meticulously cut it into pieces to build her very first design.
Recognizing this innate talent, her mother introduced her to a local tailor. Under her guidance, Umm Noer mastered the technical art of pattern drawing and intricate machine embroidery. This early physical connection to fabric laid the foundation for her design philosophy.
In her early twenties, she returned to the Netherlands to fully commit her energy to professional craft. After rigorous entrance examinations, she was accepted into the prestigious Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam at the age of 24. This intensive four-year academic transformation allowed her to refine her artistic vision, seamlessly blending high-end European design discipline with the authentic, architectural spirit of Moroccan heritage.
Today, based in the vibrant city of Tangier, Umm Noer brings these worlds together—creating garments rooted in a story of migration, meticulous craftsmanship, and a profound dedication to the art of making.
